Vacation Bible School: POWER LAB 2008

Saying that we had a good week of Vacation Bible School at Hyde Park UMC would just not be able to sum it up. In the midst of the excitment of 150+ children from our community & surrounding communities, a sea of bright orange and bright green t-shirts, music that energized the youngest campers to the oldest volunteers, stations that the kids (and the volunteers) could not stop talking about, an end of the week VBS dinner that servered almost 200.... In the midst of just a few of the above mentioned; Jesus' name was lifted high! Each day children got more than excited about an amazing bible point that was coupled with a pertinent bible story. The bible point & story were reiderated throughout the morning. I can't tell you how blessed I feel to have all the volunteers serving so joyfully & energetically- there were over 30 youth serving, 12+ tweens age- group serving, many adults & some grandparents. This week was truly a picture of living in a community that brings glory to the name of the LORD. Click below under "Slide Shows" on VBS 2008 POWER LAB to see all the fun we had!

Thank You CORE Children's & Family Ministry Volunteers

Saying Thank You is simply not enough. Each Sunday I have the priveledge to witness one of the following: 1.adults interacting with babies, changing their diapers, reading a book, singing a song, having a snack... some may think this is just free babysitting- but I invite you to see it as I do. Taking care of the little children as Jesus invited the children. He said "Let the Children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God"-Mark 10:14 2.Pre-school teachers reading a book, sharing and inviting children to listen to the stories of the bible. 3.workshop leaders/elementary rangers brightening the face of a child. Getting an a-ha, a high-five, a hug, praying with a child, playing a game... 4. TWEENS teachers sharing an experience with 5th/6th graders. Talking about mentors; involving them in taking life seriously and going deeper in their walk with God... and that is just at the surface. I hope you know what a difference you are making. It is the great commission of God (Matthew 28-18-20).

Conspire Children's Ministry 2008 Conference

What an amazing conference this is. Prior to going on this conference I thought; "my, the timing of this is not great with all the summer programing going on, etc. etc."... here I am in Chicago after day #2 of the conference. The best 3 letter word I can think of is "WoW". Totally worth it! Go to the Willow Creek Children's Website to learn more about their resources and the really fantastic speaker line up for the Conspire Conference. I hope & pray to take a "team" of lead volunteers to this Conspire 2009 Conference. Cheers! Go to the website. Maggie

VBS 2008 Here we come!!!

CORE Children's & Family Ministries is feeling so excited about this summer's Power Lab (Group Publishing inc. www.group/vbs.com )! We had our first committee meeting today and had a fantastic turn out. More importantly, each committee member had wonderful feedback and good insight for planning VBS 2008. We are most excited about ramping up our pre-teen "TWEENS" (if you will...) age group (4th-6th grades). All 4th -6th grades will have a role in VBS 2008- whether they decide to serve or participate full fledged is up to them- but one thing is for sure, they will have a blast and form a deeper love for Jesus Christ! Sign up for VBS 2008 today (registration forms are located in the front office).
